Armstrong, Martha L. passed away peacefully at home June 9th at the age of 92. Very special Mother to Rhonda Carsten (Brad.); loving sister to Dorthy Williams; wonderful aunt to Kathleen (Walter) Orthwein, Betty Eller, John (Phyllis) Williams, Linda (Gary) Currall, Larry (Diane) Busch; special great-aunt to many. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Roger and her brothers Harold, Charles, and Walter, and sister Virginia. Martha was born at home in Webster Groves on February 9th, 1919. Her father, Jacob Busch was a police officer for Webster Groves. Her mother, Rose (Kammerick) Busch was a cook at Bristol Elementary in Webster Groves. When Martha was just four years old, her father Jacob was killed in the line of duty, leaving her mother to finish raising six children. With the help of the community and money brought in by her older brothers, the family managed to get along. In 1941, Martha married Roger Armstrong. After Roger served nearly four years overseas in the Army during WWII, the couple settled in Glendale. They were happily married 62 years until Roger's death in 2003. Martha graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1937 then went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone until the 1950's. Martha and Roger were lifelong members of Glendale Presbyterian Church where Martha served for decades with the Women's Association. Roger and Martha were avid square dancers. Martha enjoyed playing cards with her group of lady friends all her life until just before her death. When possible, Martha never missed a Cardinals game. All knew her for her kind and generous spirit, constant smile and easy giggle. She will be greatly missed by all her many friends and family. Rhonda wished to thank her caregivers Drew, Robbie, and Topsy for seven years of devoted service. Special thanks to her devoted physician, Dr. Alka Kapoor. Services: A visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14th at GERBER Chapel, 23 W. Lockwood Ave., Webster Groves (968-000). Funeral services, 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 15th at Gerber Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park. Afterwards, all are welcome to join the family at Martha's house in Glendale.
