Doris Mae (Granny) Augustyn was born March 14, 1925, at Arcadia to Edward C and Flossie E. (John) Nelson and passed away at Aurora on June 3, 2011, at the age of 86.

Doris graduated from Arcadia High School in 1942. She took teaching courses through Kearney State College. Doris taught country school for nine years, teaching all grades.

On June 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Raymond T. Augustyn at Scotia.

After their marriage they lived in Scotia for two years. In 1951, they moved to the Nelson homestead farm near Arcadia. In 1966, they moved to Aurora. Raymond passed away on Feb. 9, 1975.

Doris worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Hamilton Manor, York Manufacturing and Monfort Meat Packing.

In 1991, Doris retired but continued to baby sit in her home until 2008. She loved each and every one of the children she cared for. They were each very special to her.

Doris loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed being outside working with her garden, flowers and lily pond. Doris loved animals and especially her latest Persian cat. Baby. He, like everyone else, misses her greatly. She loved to cook and try new recipes. Doris always loved doing her scrapbooking. Doris was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Her left eye was donated to Iowa University Hospital for research since her condition was so very rare.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a brother, Carl Nelson; a sister-in-law, Jean Nelson; a niece, Pamela (Nelson) Neel; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edmund Augustyn, Florence (Augustyn) Golba, Ester (Augustyn) and Richard Fish, Rachel (Augustyn) and Richard Mason, Bernard and Lorraine Augustyn, Leonard Augustyn and Danny and Betty Augustyn.

Survivors of her immediate family include her two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie and and Terry Mann and Sandra Augustyn, all of Aurora; two granddaughters, Tammy Mann of Tucson, Ariz., and Christy and her husband, Brett, Raasch of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Kale and Emery Raasch of Lincoln; a nephew and his wife, Jerry and Frostina Nelson of McCook; a niece and her husband, Peggy and Tom Hess of Pingree, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Udena Augustyn of Burwell; a nephew by marriage, Randy Neel; and a host of relatives and friends.

She will truly be missed by all her family and friends.
