KITTY HAWK - Nita Baum Ballance, 78, of Buxton, died Dec 28, in Albemarle Hospital.

She was a native of Kitty Hawk and the daughter of the late Edward and Rosa Midgett Baum and the widow of late Millard Ballance.

She was a retired teacher with the Dare Co. public school system and taught in the Cape Hatteras Elementary School. Mrs. Ballance was a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, Roanoke Island Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Order of the Ammaranth Coastal Court #12.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Bass of Long Beach, Miss.; one son: Tex Ballance of Buxton; two sisters: Irene Midgett of Kitty Hawk and Etta Midgett of Virginia Beach, Va.; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 31 in the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bill Presnell with burial following in the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk. Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo handled the arrangements.
