Helen Ruth Abernathy, 88, of Sikeston, MO, died at 5:45 a.m. Oct. 2, 2008, at St. Sophia's Nursing Home in Florissant, MO.
Born June 9, 1920, in Calico Rock, AR, to the late Oscar and Mela Ethel Foster Fisk, she was a homemaker and a former member of the United Pentecostal Church in Sikeston.
On June 26, 1937, in Sikeston, she married Johnie Joseph Abernathy, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1995.
Also preceding her in death were one sister, Fern Hammond; and four brothers, Jim Fisk, Thyrl Fisk, Jackie Fisk and J.B. Fisk.
Survivors include: one son, Harold Abernathy; one daughter, Brenda Tubb; one sister, Dorothy Paxton; five grandchildren, Julia Abernathy Sinnard, Daryl Tubb, Teresa Abernathy Mach, Darin Tubb and David Abernathy; and eight great-grandchildren, Adam Sinnard, Johnathan Mach, Matthew Sinnard, Luciana Mach, Luke Sinnard, Austin Tubb, Carson Tubb and Caleb Tubb.
Visitation was held at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services were conducted with The Rev. Tim Dugas, pastor of The Sanctuary in Hazelwood, officiating.
Burial followed in the New Morley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Daryl Tubbs, Darin Tubbs, David Abernathy, Johnathan Mach, Adam Sinnard and Bill Paxton.
