He was a son of Abishai Coffin & Sarah Long who moved from Nantucket to the Millbrook vicinity and purchased a 900 plus Acre farm. A bachelor in middle life he inherited his father's farm and built a new home between 1832 & 1833. Being a person of particular tastes he selected all the materials and superintended its construction with meticulous care. His sister Lois was his housekeeper until she died in 1841 when he then married Jane Ann Newton widow of Solomon Tallman. They had a son Henry Tristram Coffin in 1846. It was subsequently sold out of the family in 1875 but still stands today as a testament to it's original qualities.
