BOY DIES FROM BROKEN BACK AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR
Jack Aiello, 12-year-old son of Mrs. and Mrs. Antone Aiello of this city, died at four o'clock on Sunday afternoon at the hospital here from a broken back as a result of being accidentally hit by an automobile at the intersection of Talbart and Buckley Streets.
The automobile was driven by J. F. Brunscher, local undertaker and deputy coroner and was the first car in the funeral cortege of the Late Mr. F. A. Buchanan enroute to Alhambra Cemetery. Brunscher's machine was occupied by the pall bearers.
According to Brunscher the Aiello boy and Dominick Lucido, 6-year-old son of Mrs. and Mrs. A. Lucido, were playing in the gutter near the side of the street. Brunscher states he did not see the boys and pulled his car to one side as another machine approached from the opposite direction.
The funeral procession was moving slowly and Brunscher states his car was in intermediate gear at the time of the accident. The boys were both hit by the car, but the wheels of the machine did not pass over them. They were immediately rushed to the hospital here for medical attention. The Aiello boy passed away an hour later. The Lucido lad was not seriously hurt and was returned to his home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from St. Catherine's Church followed by interment in St. Catherine's Cemetery. The remains were removed to the Aiello home on Monday morning.
An inquest to determine the cause of death will be held tonight at eight o'clock at the Brunscher parlors by Coroner C. W. Donnelly.
Brunscher expressed deepest regret over the unfortunate accident. He not only has a reputation for a good driver but also a careful one and many expressions of sympathy both for him and the bereaved family have been heard since the accident.
