It was not known what happened to Hannah immediately after James death, but Frances Minerva was placed into the guardianship of Hannah's half-brother, Daniel Cruger, Jr. (son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Shuler) Cruger, Sr.) about one year later. It was not known where James W. Stout Jr. went to live, but eventually he showed up as an adult living in Michigan. He may have lived with his mother's half-brother, John Cruger, who had business in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
James W. Stout was buried next to his father, Jonathan Stout in the Old Danville Village Cemetery, which became Green Mount Cemetery.
Hannah married secondly to Edward Howell, Jr., (6 Aug 1817) and together they had at least seven children;
Daniel C. (5 Aug 1818–15 May 1893)
Edward (20 Feb 1821– 4 May 1853)
Ambrose Spencer (1823–1910)
James Faulkner (23 Feb 1826–1906)
Charles (3 Sep 1832–6 Oct 1906)
William Edward (11 Jun 1835– 2Feb 1916)
Robert Underhill (12 Feb 1839–3 Mar 1883)
When Hannah married Edward in 1817, Frances Minerva went to live with Hannah and was raised with her half-siblings as a Howell, however in wills and birth records she is listed as Stout.
Frances Minerva has been located on family trees bearing all three last names, her birth name of Stout, her guardian's name, Cruger, and her acquired name of Howell. Further confusion was caused by Daniel Cruger, Jr. and his wife Hannah Clement, naming their own daughter, Francis Minerva Cruger, (1806-1882), who was born earlier.
