Kevin Adams Cooke was born in Rockdale to John William and Peggy Adams Cooke. He was a 1986 graduate of Rockdale High School and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a degree in speech communication in 1992. In 1985, he was a Class 3A state champion in tennis doubles with his brother Ken Esten Cooke. He also played tennis for Temple College for two years.
