-- CHESTER - William Bill Green, 80, of Chester, S.C., died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in Eden, N.C. He was the widower of Peggy Blackwell Green.

Mr. Green was born in Chester to Stephen F. and Mary Cooper Green. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and spent 36 years in the National Guard in Chester. Mr. Green was retired from Cone Mills and most recently had worked for Security Forces at GAF. He also most recently attended Parkway Baptist Church. Mr. Green was predeceased by one son, James Isaac Green; and one brother, Donald Harley Green.

He is survived by two sisters, Ruby Noonkester and her husband, George, and Shirley Broome and her husband, Thomas, all of Stoneville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Chester Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Jay Dorsey. The family will receive friends from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Pollard Funeral Home. The family is gathering at 551 Canupp Road off Highway 49 in Sharon, S.C.
