Composer, Songwriter, Pianist. Sherman Edwards played piano with the Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman big bands in the 1940s, after which he was pianist and orchestra leader for popular vocalist Mindy Carson. During the 1950s and 1960s he wrote many top-40 rock and roll tunes including "See You In September," "Wonderful, Wonderful," "Dungaree Doll," "Broken-Hearted Melody" and "Johnny Get Angry", as well as songs for the Elvis Presley films "Flaming Star" and "G.I. Blues". Edwards wrote the music, lyrics and original book for the 1969 Broadway hit musical "1776", for which he won a Tony Award.
