She was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Putnam County to the late Henry Grady and Nola Edna Lowe Jernigan.
Mrs. Jared was a member of Boma First Church of God, She was also a member of Baxter Quilting Bees and VFW Auxiliary. She was also a retired beautician.
Her family includes a daughter, Marcella Lemanski of Dickson; two granddaughters and husbands, Sherry and Greg Gehring and Sandy and Ed Stewart, all of Baxter; four sisters, one sister-in-law, and two brothers-in-law, Pearl Harris, Doris and Carlon Watson and Jean and Arnold Robinson, all of Baxter, and Judy Moore of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Norman Byrd & Peggy Jernigan of Troy, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Ben and wife Delonna Gehring, Jared Gehring, Danielle Gehring, Edward Stewart and Nicholas Stewart; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kolby and Aspen Gehring.

Bro. Tim Sharp will officiate at the services.

She had 6 brothers and 7 sisters in which she was the 5th oldest. Eight of her siblings proceeded her in death. She lived the life of a farm girl into her young adult years and went to an old one room country grade school named Buckner in West Putnam County. When she was 21 she married Johnny Jared in Dec. 1939, and they later moved to Detroit, MI for work. They lived in Detroit for several decades before moving back to Baxter, TN., after retirement in 1984. Olive Lee had only one child, a daughter named Marcella. Marcella gave birth to two daughters of her own in which Johnny and Olive would later unofficially adopt. The granddaughters are Sherry and Sandy. Johnny died in 1988 of a heart attack. Ms. Jared continued to live in the same house in Baxter until the day that she died and became a Great Great grandmother for her last 8 years of life. She is buried beside of her husband in the Smellage Cemetary (Memorial Gardens section). I have very fond memories of my Aunt. She would come South from Detroit to visit her mother and siblings every year for birthday's and other special occasions. We were always glad to see them when they came to Baxter. When she and her husband moved back to Baxter from Detroit, the extended family were always welcome at their house and would be invited over for special events and holiday meals. She loved participating in the Baxter Senior Citizens activities. Before she got older and unable she would go to most of the Rook card games, trips, crafts, and other activities sponsored by the seniors. The last two days of her life she had an artierial blockage in her body that caused her death at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She will be sorely missed by us all.
