CARDIN-In Oakland, August 23, 1946, Maria Rogers Cardin, beloved wife of Antonio Rogers Cardin, loving mother of Mrs. Marian Linhares of Daly City, Mrs Lena Ray of Vallejo, Mrs. Gloria Gomes, Mrs Louisa May, William and Edward Rogers Cardin and the late Margaret Gomes and Annie Pine, grandmother of 28 grand-children and great grandmother of 18 great grandchildren. A member of Council No 11 S P R S I a native of Flores, Azores, aged 86 years.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral Monday, August 26, 1946, at 9 a. m. from East Lawn Chapel, East 14th Street at 5th Avenue, Thence to St. Joseph's Church where a requiem high mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul commencing at 9:30 o'clock. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Oakland, Recitation of the rosary Sunday evening at 8:00.

Portuguese name for Grandmother:
The most commonly used Portuguese name for grandmother is avó. Variations are avozinha, vovó or just vo.
Interestingly, both grandmothers and grandfathers are referred to as avo, but the pronunciation is different. Avô for a grandfather is pronounced "a-voh," with the variant vovô being pronounced "vo-voh." Avó for a grandmother is pronounced "a-vaw," with the variation vovó being pronounced "vo-vaw."
