Henry was born Heinrich Wilhelm Wilke in Hanover, Germany in 1851. Henry's mother married Gerhard Friedrich Oberböster prior to marrying his father in 1849. When G.F Oberböster died she had several young children and married again quickly. Why Henry chose to use the name Boester in America is unknown however he did name one of his son's John Wilke. According to his naturalization paperwork (filed 1872)he arrived August 3, 1870 in in New York. He can be found in 1874 living and working in Fort Wayne, Indiana He met and married Mary Strübing in 1879 and they settled in Defiance County, Ohio. Henry worked as a Shoemaker most of his life but later purchased a farm which sustained his wife until her death as rental property. Henry's mother came to America in 1881 and lived with his half-brother Gerhardt in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He visited often. Henry's father died in Germany before his mother's journey. Henry is buried alongside his wife, Mary and most of their children.
