Funeral services for Lena Lenora Holmes, 71, of Richmond, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the First Baptist Church, 502 South Fifth St. in Richmond. The Rev. Dr. John Lockhart will officiate the service, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Carhart, Carson Hartlage, Dan McDonald, Pat McDonald, Johnny Tarver, Jack Reed, Steve Holmes, and Mike Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Slusser and Royce Litchfield.
Mrs. Holmes passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002. She was born Dec. 3, 1930 to William and Ivy Mae Hartlage in the rural community of Foster. She received her education at Richmond High School, Wharton Junior College, and Southwest Texas University. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rosenberg. She made her career working with Gulf States Tube and also working with her husband, Cecil, in the family's manufacturing business, Holmes Amtech Industries. Lenora had an active role in the Fort Bend County Taxpayers Association for many years. Her favorite weekend activities were shopping at flea markets and antique stores, going to family cookouts at the family ranch in Garwood and fishing with the family in Rockport.
Lenora is survived by her husband of 52 years, Cecil Holmes; three children, Tommy and his wife, Debbie, Catherine Litchfield and her husband, Kendall, and son, David. She also leaves two grandchildren, Gregory and Megan Holmes; one sister, Vera Carhart of Houston; one brother, William Hartlage Jr. and his wife, Charlotte, of Richmond; nieces, Robin Hartlage McKee, Melissa Carhart Lanier; nephews, Johnny Carhart, Carson Hartlage, and Mike Hartlage.
Lenora was preceded in death by her mother and father, a son, William Wyatt, and a brother-in-law, James Carhart.
Lenora is gone, but her spirit lingers with her family. The love and care she gave as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor will forever be with us. Her fight with a deadly disease provided an example of strength and inspiration to her loved ones.
