Dale was born eighth out of nine children to Marion Francis Dickerson and Sadie Alice Leggitt. He married Verna Maxine Jordan in 1957; they had three children - Dale, Connie and Albert.

Dale was killed in an accident at work where he was crushed with a crane by a co worker.
