Eliza Slater Cone was born the daughter of Mary Burnsed Slater and William Slater about 1812. She was the first wife of Barber Cone. On December 20, 1832 they married and had six children: William Barber Cone, America Ann Cone McElveen, Aaron Jackson Cone, John Slater Cone, Paul Robert Cone, and Georgia Ann Cone Brewer. Both John and Paul died on June 10, 1862 as Confederate soldiers defending James Island near Charleston, South Carolina. Eliza died about 1855 at about age 43 in Bulloch County, Georgia and is buried in the Old William Cone-Barber Family Cemetery in Bulloch County.
