Peter Cone was born August 6, 1790 in Bulloch County, Georgia to Aaron Cone, Sr. and Susannah Hannah Marlow Cone. Peter had eleven siblings. He was the grandson of Revolutionary War veteran William Henry Cone and Keziah Eudel Barber Cone. Peter never married, but with Mary Richardson, the daughter of Abraham Richardson, he had two children: Peter Cone Richardson and General Cone Richardson.

He was a veteran of the War of 1812, the First Seminole War, and a Major General in the Confederacy in the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Georgia Militia.

The "Story of Bulloch County" reports that "It was in 1850 when Peter Cone entered the arena of Georgia politics. He was a dominant figure in the politics of the state and was returned to the Senate at each successive election, with one exception, until
1852 when he voluntarily withdrew from public affairs. It is said that his sister Kesiah [Cone Sheffield Deloach] managed his political campaigns."

Peter died at age 75 in Bulloch County on January 6, 1866 and is buried at the Old William Cone-Barber Family Cemetery in Bulloch County.

Thanks so much to the dozens of Cone family genealogists for much of this information, especially Lucy A. Richardson-Price Folbrecht, and to the late William Bernard Cone, Jr. for creating the site. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions.
