Betty Jane "BJ" Mullins Hissom, 78, of Charleston passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at CAMC General Hospital.
BJ was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an employee of Gov. Bob Wise for many years and received the Distinguished West Virginian Award in 2003. She attended Guthrie Baptist Church and was proudly a lifelong resident of West Virginia. BJ lived and died in the mountains, hills and hollows that she so dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lovell and Lena Mullins; her husband, Ernest Hissom; sister, Leona Mullins Lanham; and brother, Charles Mullins.
BJ is survived by her daughter, Vickie Botkins Koogler of Mechanicsville, Va.; stepdaughters, Tonya Hissom Milam of North Carolina and Mary Hissom Marian of Stamping Ground, Ky.; sons, Robert Botkins of Blacksburg, Va., and Gregory Botkins and wife, Sherry, of Lavalette; stepson, Ernest Hissom Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Barbara Mullins Huddleston of Clendenin; brothers, Don Mullins of Cameron, N.C., and Roger "Chip" Mullins of Blue Creek; grandchildren, Jessica Koogler, Zachariah Botkins, Luke Koogler, Seth Botkins and Ernest Hissom III; great-granddaughter, Lena Koogler; special aunt, Juanita Kelley of Columbus, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of BJ's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, 600 Old Fort St., Cedar Grove, with the Rev. Melvin Sizemore and Ministers Zach Botkins and Seth Botkins officiating. Entombment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
