Born February 17, 1932 in Crowville, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Archie Lee Jones and the late Beulah (Corbett) Jones. She was also predeceased by her husband, Samuel J. Ates and son, Marvin Ates. Mrs. Ates was a member of Dodson Assembly of God Church. Survivors include two sons, Rodger Allen Ates and wife Sandy of Dickinson, TX and James Lee Ates and wife Cindy of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Brenda Sue Fowler and husband Frank of Lafayette, LA, Rechel Holland of Dutchtown, LA and Tamara Jean Bullard and husband Mark of Winnfield; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Chelette and husband Eugene of Dodson along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, May 26, 2011 in the Southern Funeral Home chapel with Reverends Author Robinson and Terry Bartley officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
The Ates Family will receive friends in the Southern Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 5:00-9:00 PM and on Thursday from 11:00Am until time of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Frankie Fowler, Adam Fowler, Bradley Ates, Marc Ates, Daniel Ates, Wayman Chelette.
