CHARLES HERBERT KEATING, 55, of Decatur, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 7:42 a.m., at his residence following an extended illness. Born Jan. 21, 1954, in Janesville, Wis., he was the son of the late Eugene Francis Keating and Violet Lillian (Norris) Keating. He married Paula (Gremaux) Keating on Jan. 30, 2009, in Decatur; she survives in Decatur.
He retired from General Motors, Fort Wayne following over 30 years of service in the facility support section; also worked part-time at Riverview II Family Restaurant, Decatur. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Decatur, Decatur Moose Lodge 1311, Eagles Lodge 2653 and VFW Post 6236. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packer Fan (Packer Backer) and Wisconsin University Badger fan. He also enjoyed golf and the many trips to Vegas. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed spending the weekends watching the races.
Surviving are son, Dylan Gene Keating at home; brothers, Michael Keating of Janesville, Wis., Jeff (Rachel) Keating of King of Prussia, Penn. and Doug (Wanda) Keating of Janesville, Wis.; sister, Kim (Joe) Griep of Janesville, Wis; 16 nephews and nieces. Prayer service is 9:30 a.m. Monday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Decatur. Father David Voors officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Rosary recitation at 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Dylan's Education Fund.
