Gladys was born December 18, 1910, in Kenmare, ND, the daughter of Otto and Thea (Hillestad) Staael. She was reared and educated in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School. She later moved to California and married Norman Claxton in 1948. Gladys worked for Sears in sales in Walnut Creek, CA. Gladys and Norman retired and moved to Sun City, AZ. In the spring of 2007, Gladys moved to Kenmare.
Gladys was an accomplished artist and photographer. In 2010, she won a prize at the North Dakota State Fair for her tatting.
She has been a long time member of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ.
Gladys is survived by her brother, Duane "Budd" Staael, Kenmare; sister, Vie Dennhardt, Sun City, AZ; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Harold Staael.
