Steven, the son of Gerald O. Bloom and Mildred F. Bloom and brother of Greg F. Bloom, all of Elkhart IN enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 15, 1966 in Indianapolis IN. He arrived in Vietham and was assigned to Company K, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During Operation DESOTO a Marine patrol moving between the hamlets of An Thuong and Vinh Phuoc in Duc Pho District, were hit by 20 rounds of enemy small arms rifle which resulted in the death of LCpl Bloom.
