TYRONE, GA - Mr. Jesse Branford Taylor, 84, of Tyrone passed away August 30, 2010 at Christian City Convalescent Center in Union City.

Branford was a decorated WW II vet of the 325th GIR of the 82nd ABN. He entered the US Army in May 1944, at age 18. He completed basic training at Camp Croft, SC and basic Airborne training at Camp Mackall, NC, where he qualified for the Airborne Glider Badge. He was deployed to the ETO, shipped out of New York on the George Washington and landed at Le Havre, France, February 1945. Jesse was in a Glider drop under fire near the Sigfried Line. Branford was discharged from the 82nd ABN in April 1946 at Fort McPherson, GA. He was awarded the Glider Badge, American Service Medal, EAMETO with Bronze Star, WW II Victory Medal, Expert Carbine medal, Sharpshooter Rifle Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was authorized to wear the Presidential Unit Citation Dutch Orange Lanyard and French Fourragere. The WWII Cross of Military Service was presented to Branford by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

After the war, Branford and his wife Donnie lived in the Atlanta area where he worked at Minnesota Paints and then PacCar for 18 years as a supervisor.

Branford was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maebelle; sisters, Ethel and Mamie; brother, Jay and son, Dan.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donnie; son, Randall "J. R." (Deborah); daughter-in-law, Phyllis; grandchildren, Dan S.; Michael (Silvia), and Tristin and great-grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Taylor.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 1 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial Park.
