Charles E. Baer, 90, of 2 Grant Street, died in Bowles nursing home at Clark's Hill at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday. He had been a patient there since Feb. 7, having gone there from Home hospital where he was admitted on his 90th birthday Jan. 15. Born near Stockwell, he was a Monon railroad freight house checker until his retirement in 1940. He was married to Amanda E. Horlacher in 1893 and was a member of Congress Street Methodist church. The couple lived at Ben Davis for 11 years after his retirement and returned to Lafayette in 1951.

Surviving with the widow are two half brothers, Roscoe of Kokomo and Joseph of Hartford, Conn. Surviving are two grandsons, Charles E. Davis of Indianapolis and Dale R. Davis of Plainfield; a granddaughter, Mrs. Thomas Ellis of Plainfield and six great-grandchildren. Burial at Clarks Hill Cemetery.
