son of Eliphalet Haston and Mary Constance de La Fontaine Vaughan. Brayton was a lumberman and later a logdriver. In 1889 he began a large business in excavating and stonework for cemeteries and made a specialty of handling heavy freight. He owned seven houses, operated B. L. Vaughan and Sons and was active in the Baptist church. He was a Republican and served as a supervisor and as a member of the County Board.
Brayton and his wife, Harriet were the parents of four children: Arvin Lewis, david Clyde, Algy Paul and Zada Evelyn.
