Memorial graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery Tuesday at 2 p.m. for former Taft and Cuyama resident James Robert Shaver, 77. Mr. Shaver was born in Milo, Iowa on July 1, 1921 and he passed away in his city of residence, Yuma, Arizona on Dec. 30. He was raised and educated in Taft and graduated from Taft Union High School in 1938. He went on to Taft College. During the Second War he served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as a bombardier and flew 69 missions over the English Channel. He was employed as a gauger for ARCO in the Cuyama Valley for many years. After retiring from ARCO he worked for Southern Pacific in the steam fields. Mr. Shaver enjoyed piloting his own plane out of the Taft Airport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amza and Wilma Shaver. Mr. Shaver is survived by his wife, his children, his four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his cousin. Mr. Shaver was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and the Taft Midway Lodge # 426 F&AM. No visitation hours are scheduled and the services are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
