OLDEST RESIDENT OF NACHUSA IS DEAD
HENRY HERBST PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME
THERE ON FRIDAY NIGHT.

Henry Herbst, the oldest resident of Nachusa township, passed away at his home there at 11 o'clock Friday night, aged 88 years, 4 months and 19 days. The end came peacefully, death being caused by the gradual failing of the vital forces, due to old age.

Mr. Herbst came to Illinois with his family in the spring of 1884, moving to the farm north of Nachusa at present owned by Geo. Weidman. He bought the Miller farm adjacent to Nachusa the fall of 1895 to which he removed the following spring. This farm has since been his home. His aged wife preceded him in death a little over two years ago.

To them were born seven sons and two daughters. One daughter died in infancy. The others, Mrs. Annie Null, E. J., J. E., S. H., C. W., H. B., J. S. and R. E. all survive him and have the memory of a noble father.
He was one of twelve children of whom two sisters, both over 80 years of age, survive him

He united with the Lutheran church in Gettysburg, Pa., later transferring membership to the Nachusa Lutheran church, of which he was an officer many years, and he was also a regular attendant at the services, being present on Sunday morning, two weeks prior to his death.
He became of member of Gettysburg lodge I. O. O. F. of Gettysburg Dec. 5, 1854, and maintained his membership in the order up to the time of his death, over 60 years.

Funeral services will be held at the Nachusa Lutheran church Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. F. D. Altman officiating and with burial at Emmert cemetery.
