Conrad, Ruth: (1912-2002); "Davenport.—Family interment for Ruth Conrad, 90, in Egypt Cemetery preceded a memorial service on Tuesday, June 18, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Spokane. She died June 12, 2002 in Davenport. Born March 13, 1912, in Davenport, she graduated in 1929 from Davenport High School and was a 1934 graduate of the Deaconess School of Nursing in Spokane. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Whitworth College in 1951, and a masters in the field from the University of Washington in 1957. She served as a US Army nurse from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific. She also worked at Deaconess, St Luke's and Renton hospitals. An active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane and the Altrusa Club, she used her cooking skills at the church and served meals to senior citizens and children in the after-school Latch Key program. She also cooked each fall for the Coeur d'Alene Park spaghetti feed, provided a place for Spokane business college students to stay, and worked several years with the head of a boys group home, where she taught basic cooking and housekeeping skills. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Ernest Conrad; and a sister, Irene Conrad Martin. She leaves a sister, Laura Nelson of Creston; and 17 nieces and nephews. Memorial service for Ruth Conrad, 90, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery in Davenport, Wash. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Conrad, who died Wednesday, was born in Davenport. She was a 42-year resident of Spokane.

She graduated from Davenport High School in 1929 and the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1934.

Miss Conrad served as a nurse in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. She also worked as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital and the Renton Hospital in Renton, Wash.

She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Whitworth College in 1951 and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Washington in 1957.

Miss Conrad was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Altrusa Club. She also volunteered at a local boys group home.

Survivors include a sister, Laura Nelson of Creston, Wash.
