U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of Alabama, in 1928, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Union Springs, Alabama. He was district attorney for the third judicial circuit of Alabama, (1931-43) and served as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Naval Reserve, during World War II. In 1944, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Henry B. Steagall and reelected to the next fourteen succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 65. The George W. Andrews Federal Building in Opelika, Alabama, was named in his honor in 1972.
