Columbia, S.C. - Carrie M. New, 102, died late Wednesday afternoon in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia, S.C., after an extended illness.

The Wheeler County native had lived in Statesboro for many years before moving to Columbia several years ago. She was the retired owner of the Mrs. New's Kindergarten and a retired teacher from the Georgia public school system. She was a graduate of South Georgia College and the South Baptist Theological Training School. She was married to the late Rev. Ricey S. New and was a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Ricey S. New Jr., Alexander, Va.; two daughters, Mary H. Brubeck, Salem, Va., and Manora Gilmore, Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Gladys Goldwiare, Starke, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service and burial will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Eastside Cemetery with the Rev. William Perry officiating.
