Virgie Lee Bowman Banks, 88, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. She was born on June 17, 1922 in North Carolina to the late Curtis McKinley Bowman and Nancy Jathina Bowman.



She was married to the late Ivan Mullen Banks for 68 years. She worked at General Electric for 23 years. Virgie was loved greatly by her family, a seamstress by nature and a great cook.



She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Hall and husband Carlton of Lynchburg; her son M. Randall "Randy" Banks of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Greg Holland (Michelle) of Lynchburg; Cheri Brown (Doug) of Bentonville, AR; and Michael Banks of Salem, NH; two step-grandchildren; Angelia Page, and Jennifer Powers; five great- grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.



Virgie was a member of Vesta Seventh-Day Adventist Church, involved with the Senior Olympics and a member of Forest Ruritan Club.



The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m. May 12, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502. A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Dr. J. Monty Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
