Ruth Eileen Northup Babcock, 101, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully May 9, 2011. Born October 1, 1909, in Rexford, KS, Eileen was the daughter of Thomas Milton Northup and Josephine Slopansky Northup. Her family moved to Quinter, KS where she attended Quinter Grade School and High School. Eileen graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in English and a minor in Home Economics. She was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon Sorority. She was 80 yr. member of the Order of Eastern Star and 60 yr. member of Community Christian Church. Eileen married her high school sweetheart, Lee V. Babcock. They were blessed with one daughter, Carol Elaine. Eileen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She ruled the kitchen baking pies and cookies. She worked the daily crossword puzzle with zest. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Lois Crissman and brother Duane Northup. Eileen is survived by her daughter Carol and son-in-law Charles "Chuck" A. Etem III, two granddaughters, Jill Dinges (Aaron), Emily Brady (Jimmy), grandson Mark Etem, three great- grandchildren, Abraham Dinges, Liam Brady & Rory Elizabeth Brady, and her constant companion Teddy Dog. The family will receive friends 9:00- 9:45 a.m. Thursday, May 12, with a graveside celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. at Floral Hills, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.
