Actor. Born Fred Bowditch in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he moved to Hollywood in the 1920s and made his film debut in "Song of Love" (1929). Working for Republic Studios, he appeared in the lead roles in "The Shadow" series and films such as "Huddle" (1932), "Thunderbolt" (1935), "Knute Rockne All American" (1940), "Spy Smasher" (1942) and "Stage Struck" (1948). He retired from films in 1948 and went on to make a fortune in the fashion business. He died at age 66 in Corona Del Mar, California.
