Robert Rogers, Jr. (1815-1842) was the son of a White man, Robert Rogers, and a half-blood Cherokee woman, Lucy Cordery. Although the memorial plaque at the burial site of Robert Rogers, Jr. states that he was a signer of the 1835 Treaty of New Echota, that information is incorrect. The Robert Rogers, Jr. buried in this cemetery was the grandfather of Oklahoma humorist Will Rogers, but was NOT a signer of the 1835 Treaty of New Echota. The Robert Rogers (1804-1858) that signed the treaty was a Methodist minister and never came West. He remained in Georgia and is buried there at Duluth. There is a connection, however, between the two Rogers men. The Robert Rogers (1804-1858) who signed the treaty was the son of John "Nolichucky Jack" Rogers and Sarah Cordery (sister to Lucy Cordery mentioned above).
