Doris "Lou" Gilliland, 73, of Bloomington went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning on "Mothers Day" surrounded by her loving family. Born July 3, 1937 in Horse Cave, Kentucky to Hubert Puckett and Emma (McCubbins) Judy.

Lou was a 50 year member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, she was a "Paul Harris" recipient in the Bloomington Rotary Club; Assistant Treasurer for the Rotary Club; Member of Business Women; Taught 4H and cherished photography and gardening her flowers, but, her first love was her family especially her husband to whom she was married nearly 55 years.

She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Gilliland; 1 daughter, Sherrie Bowlen of Bloomington; 1 son, Eddie Ray Gilliland; 4 brothers, John Puckett of Tucson, Arizona, Paul Puckett of Hardyville, Ky., James Puckett of Bloomington, and Milton Puckett of Bloomington; 1 sister, Betty Gilliland of Bloomingon; a half brother, Darrell Puckett of Indianapolis; a half sister, Roxanne Ashby of Shelborn, IN.; a step brother, Roger Zink of Whitehall; 6 grandchildren, Tarah Culbertson, Natalie Bowlen, Shaina Dixon, Jordon Gilliland, Katie Mills and Alyssa Gilliland all of Bloomington; 3 great grandchildren, Makayla Culbertson, Emma Culbertson and Jesse Dixon. And a host of friends.

She was employed at the Auditor's office as a bookkeeper but later retired in 2000 after 27 years of dedicated service at the Monroe County Consolidated School Corporation.

Funeral services will be at the Day Funeral Home Wednesday at 10:30AM with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 2-8PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund or the Bloomington Hospital Hospice c/o Day Funeral Home.

Burial was at Payne Cemetery
