Margaret Hewitt Gardner
On May 5, 2011, Margaret Hewitt Gardner went home to be with her Lord. A life long resident of Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Salem and Virginia Lowery Newlin. A funeral service will be in Sunnyside Pres- byterian Church on Monday, May 9th at 1 p.m., with Rev. Ron Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

A visitation will be in Phelps Funeral Chapel, 5095 Main Street, Stephens City from 4 p.m., until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 8th. Margaret Newlin married Arthur "Ike" Hewitt on June 29, 1942. They enjoyed thirty-six years of marriage before his death in 1978. They had six children, Gary William who died at birth and her surviving children, Judy Clayton and her husband Pat of Richmond, VA, Harry Hewitt and his wife Margie of Inwood, WV, Loretta Lintz and her husband Jim of Princeton, WV, Janet Jenkins and her husband Gary of Winchester and Peggy Milburn of Fairmont, WV. A sister, Lena Wisecarver of Winchester is also surviving. She married Bill Gardner in 1980 who passed away in 1989. Surviving are two step- sons, Billy Gardner and his wife JoAnn and Jerry Gardner and his wife Faye all of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and many loving friends and neighbors. She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, a member of Daughters of American Veterans and a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg serving a total of 12,021 loving hours there.
