Joan had Lupus for many years and ultimately died when her colon was perforated during a colonoscopy. I never had a chance to say good-bye.
She had 2 daughters who are adults now and have families of their own, plus two other daughters who died within 3 days of their birth. One had transposition of the great vessels (everything in her chest was backwards) and the other one had gastroschisis (organs outside her body). We could have fixed those things now, but the babies were born in the 50s. I think the problems had to do with Joan having lupus, but that's only my guess.
Joan was cremated and her daughters scattered her ashes.
