A.G. Paul Altman, 86, of Smail Road, Gilpin Township, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Leechburg, son of the late James Judson Altman and Mabel Beatrice (Stitt) Altman. He was employed by Bagdad Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation as a helper on the tunnel furnace, retiring in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Forks Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gilpin Township, and United Steel Workers of America Local 1138. He enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alene (Claypool) Altman, who passed away Sept. 24, 1987; brothers, James F. Altman and Samuel Altman; and infant sister, Hazel Marie Altman. He is survived by a son, Louis Dale (Nancy) Altman, of Gilpin Township; three daughters, Diane Riffer, of Shelocta, Sandra Nemeth, of Leechburg, and Candace (Benjamin) Gard, of Gilpin Township; two brothers, David V. (Pauline) Altman and John W. (Rita) Altman, both of Gilpin Township; sister, Mary (Howard) Shearer, of Allegheny Township; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be welcomed by his family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. Saturday until funeral ceremonies at 11 a.m. at CLAWSON'S, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with his pastor, the Rev.
