Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Wilmarie Fergeson, age 86, were held at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Tulloch, pastor of First Baptist church officiating. Burial was made at Oak Lawn cemetery. Casket attendants were Jim Eads, John Dockall, Terry McLeod, George Lumpkin, Ed Lumpkin and L.A. Zimmer.
Mrs. Fergeson passed away in her home at 8 o'clock Saturday night. She was a native Texan, born on August 28, 1861, and had lived the greater part of her life in Milam County and Rockdale. She was married to Mr. Jessie Fergeson who preceded her in death in 1941.
Mrs. Fergeson at an early age accepted Christ and united with the Baptist church. It had been her privilege to see one of her sons follow her Christian teachings and become a minister, and other members of her family take active part in church work. Her church-going habit of a life-time had to be given up in recent years due to an ailment that prevented her being active.
Although a shut-in she continued to do useful work with her fingers and spent much time at her favorite occupation of piecing quilts; and she was content in the environments of home, family and friends. Mrs. Fergeson was the last member of the Holder family to survive: a sister Mrs. Hazel passed away only last June.
She is survived by the following three daughters Miss Jessie Fergeson, Mrs. Robert Phillips, Mrs. Harry Williams, four sons, Singleton Fergeson of Rockdale, Rev. Luther Fergeson of Waco, Edgar Fergeson of Milano, Ewing Fergeson of Houston, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Rockdale Reporter, May 12, 1948
