Susan J. Donley, a long time resident of the South Bay, passed away at her home on May 2, 2011 of complications from Parkinson's disease. She was 77. Born Susan Jean Norton on September 17, 1933 in Torrance, Susan was a 1951 graduate of Gardena High School. She maintained several lifelong friends from her high school years. Her father, Dale Norton, was a founding partner of Die Cast Products, Inc. and it was there she met Bruce Donley, the son of a DCP employee. They married in 1951 and moved to Boyes Hot Springs, near Hamilton AFB where Bruce finished his enlistment in the Air Force. The Donley's returned to Los Angeles area, living in Westchester and then settling in the Hollywood Riviera section of Torrance. They were active in Riviera Little League, Rainbows, and at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach, where Sue was president of the Women's Association in 1976-77. She worked periodically at DCP and later at Hughes Aircraft. Bruce died in 1992. Sue Donley is survived by her step-mother, Francie Norton of Palos Verdes; her son, Michael of Virginia; her daughter, Melinda Bowman of Walteria; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Elizabeth, Katherine, Cameron, and Jacqueline, and three great grandchildren, Aidan, Daniel, and Madeleine. A graveside service is planned for Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at Green Hills, followed by an 11:30 memorial service at Riviera United Methodist Church.
