BENNINGTON - James T. McLaughlin Sr., 78, a resident of New Port Richey, Fla., and former resident of Bennington, died Feb. 12, 2003, at Community Hospital in Port Richey, Fla.
He was born May 18, 1924, in Bennington, the son of William and Mary (Parker) McLaughlin.
He graduated from Bennington High School in 1942.
He married Virginia Dockum on May 16, 1945, in Bennington.
Mr. McLaughlin worked at the Old Bennington Weavers, at Pond - Lily Co. in New Haven, Conn., and at Face Mate Co. in Rochester, N.H., until the time of his retirement.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater, and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus in Willimantic, Conn., American Legion Post 13 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1332 in Bennington, and a former member of the Eagle Hose Co., Bennington Fire Department.
Mr. McLaughlin enjoyed sports, especially golf.
Survivors include his wife of New Port Richey, Fla.; three sons, James McLaughlin of Woodstock, William McLaughlin of West Haven, Conn., and Sean McLaughlin of Branford, Conn.; a brother, Robert McLaughlin of Springfield; seven grandchildren and a great - grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jerome McLaughlin.
The memorial service will be held at a later date at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place in White Chapel Cemetery.
