Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a First Sergeant in Company A, 7th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Falling Waters, Virginia on July 14, 1863. His citation reads “Capture of flag of 55th Virginia Infantry (C.S.A.). In the midst of the battle with foot soldiers he dismounted to capture the flag”. His Medal was awarded to him on March 21, 1889.
