Dunlap - Wayne V. Gronewald, 88, of Dunlap died at 6:18 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Wayne was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Trivoli, the son of Alvin and Clara Grafelman Gronewald. He married Bernice Callery on June 6, 1946, in Princeville. She survives.

Surviving are son, John Gronewald of St. Paul, Minn.; three daughters, Patricia (Roger) Frank of Mapleton, Rose Marie (Rollin) Arnett of Princeville and Mary Jo (Ken) Grainger of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Carroll of Chillicothe and Carol (Bob) Caldwell of Edelstein.

His parents; son, Mike Gronewald; sister, Veronia Gronewald; two brothers, Kenneth Gronewald and foster brother, Swede Carlson; and great-granddaughter, Lily Wolf, preceded him in death.

Wayne was a farmer in the Edelstein area for most of his life.

He was the former leader of the Edelstein Rockets 4-H Club for many years, an active member of the Edelstein School Board, Peoria County Farm Bureau and Radnor-Grange Club.
Wayne loved to dance and was a regular attendee of The Hub ballroom.

Wayne was a fun-loving husband and father whose passions were farming and spending time with his family.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Dunlap, where a visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Reverend Paul Carlson will officiate. A rosary service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Princeville.

Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home in Princeville is in charge of arrangements.

The family of Wayne Gronewald wishes to extend its sincere thanks to SFMC medical intermediate staff and Dr. George Gilbert for the care and compassion to Wayne and his family.
