Writer, producer and director, particularly of TV's original "Star Trek" episodes and a founding member of the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences. Lucas wrote and directed several episodes of the pioneering television realism show "Medic," which aired from 1954 to 1956. His TV career continued as he wrote and directed episodes of series including "Zorro," "Ben Casey," "The Fugitive," "The Invaders," "Medical Center" and "Mannix." Additionally, he helmed TV episodes of "Night Gallery," "Planet of the Apes," "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Quincy, M. E." and "Beyond Westworld." His love of sci-fi led "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry to bring him aboard to write and direct numerous episodes of the first season of that landmark series and then to produce the second and third years.
