Walter "Ray" Ambrose, Jr., 75, of Glen Burnie, Md. and previously of Brooklyn Park, Md., died April 18, 2011 at Harbor Hospital.

He was born in Baltimore, Md. in 1935 to the late Violet and Walter Raymond Ambrose.

They moved from Baltimore to Great Cacapon in the 1940s.

He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1953.

He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves where he retired after 22 years of service.

He worked as a Baltimore City Police Officer for 26 years, retiring in 1990.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Lou Ambrose; three children, Angie Miller, Severn, Md., Bryan Ambrose, Annapolis, Md. and Tina Dorsey, Martinsburg; two sisters, Esther Kreek of Missouri and Hazel Sorrentino, Linthicum, Md.; six grandchildren, Shannon Ambrose, Justin Dorsey, Amanda Miller, Corey Dorsey, Carly Miller and Ashley Dorsey and one great-grandchild.

A graveside military service was held Friday, April 22 at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
