Ruben Edwards, 91, of Pana, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Heritage Manor—Pana. He was born April 10, 1919 in Shelbyville, the son of John Rufus & Hattie May (Syfert) Edwards. Ruben lived most of his life in the Shelbyville & Pana areas, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a foreman at Oliver Co, and retired as a maintenance worker at Pana Community Hospital, where he had worked for over 30 years. Ruben played any musical instrument he touched. He was very active and loved fishing & walking. In his later years, he loved to go four-wheeler riding. Ruben was a member of the Community of Christ Church, where he was a retired minister. In later years, he attended the First United Pentecostal Church, Pana with Dona. Ruben was also a life member of VFW Post #443, Pana.
He married Frances Mae Robson, and she preceded him in death in 1958. He married Leah Geneva "Jenny" Robson on June 6, 1959 in Pana. She preceded him in death on December 17, 1996. He then married Dona Sims on September 22, 2001 in Pana.
Ruben is survived by his wife: Dona Edwards, Pana, IL; children: Patricia Edwards, Effingham, IL & Christine Ober, Effingham, IL; step children: Donald Sims, Pana, IL; Steven Sims, Pana, IL; & Patricia Sinclair, Fort Wayne, IN; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer Hagen & husband Eric, Effingham, IL; Sara Rosemersy & husband James, St. Louis, MO; Brian Ober & wife Kathy, Lake In The Hills, IL; 8 step grandchildren: David, Becky, Adam, Andy, Aubrey, Shawn, Dawn, & April; 6 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 2 step great-great grandchildren; & twin sister: Ruby Tripp, Stuart, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives; and 10 brothers & sisters.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in the First United Pentecostal Church, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Chris Ober & Rev. Tom Gallion officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Mound Cemetery, Pana. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
