U.S. Congressman. Moving to Vermont, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1806, practiced law in St. Albans, plus engaged in banking and agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives (1813, 25-26). In 1827, he was elected to the Twentieth and Twenty-first Congresses until 1831. Not a candidate for reelection, he continued to work as a lawyer and farmer until his death.
