Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Esther Bauder, 94, of Rock Valley, died Wednesday August 22, 2012 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 11 am Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church rural Sioux Center, IA. Burial at church cemetery. Visitation will begin noon Friday with the family present 6:30-8 pm Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Esther Maria was born April 1, 1918 to Fred and Alvina (Tank) Gayer on the family farm in Plato Township, Sioux County, Iowa, was baptized on April 28, 1918, and confirmed on February 23, 1930 at Peace Lutheran Church. She attended Plato Country #3 for elementary grades and attended Rock Valley High School and graduated in 1935. She spent a summer at West Union College in Le Mars taking classes furthering her elementary education. Esther then taught country school for 1 year and decided it was more important to stay home and help on the farm fulfilling some of the domestic calls for help that included family members, relatives, friends, and church. Esther married Art Bauder on February 25, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church, where both were baptized and confirmed members. They made their first home in Lebanon, IA and in 1956 moved to the Bauder family farm. Art passed away on January 23, 2002.
Esther was active in the church, teaching Sunday school, serving office in WELCA, singing in the choir and sewing many quilts and making kits for Lutheran World Relief. She also served on the board of the Sioux County Extension Service, being honored Mother of the Year for Sioux County. Esther had a passion for gardening, both flowers and vegetables. She was a great seamstress who made many quilts for family and friends. Her quick wit and sense of humor lightened up the lives of many.

Surviving relatives are sons, Dwayne (Carol) Bauder of Worthing, SD, David Arthur Bauder of Sioux Center, John (Sue) Bauder of Glendo , WY; daughters, Mary (Tyrone) Holt of Denver, CO, Sue (Vince) Sandbulte of Sioux Center, IA, Julie (Dan) Albert of LeMars, IA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Lura) Gayer of Rock Valley; sisters, Ann Wasser of Hawarden, IA, Dorothy (Ben) Villaneuva of National City, CA, Marcia (Walter) Intorf of Osage, IA.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Art; brother, Fred Fritz Gayer; sisters, Martha Gerlach, Emma Moeller, Minnie Bauder, Louise Heuer.
