Sarah Elizabeth Hargis was the daughter of Green Clay Hargis and Melita Adkins. Green Clay died in 1849, and Melita remarried to Samuel Smith. Sarah had a daughter, Gertrude in 1858, died in Chicago, Il. July 23, 1925. At the time of her death, she was married to Alexander Hardin. She had another daughter, Leota Belle Bowers born December 18th, 1862 from her marriage to James Leonard Bowers, who was killed in the Battle of Baton Rouge, La. August 5th, 1862 during the Civil War. Sarah was a dressmaker.
