Deceased Name: Leslie 'Barney' Byron Botkin Jr.

ADRIAN - Leslie 'Barney' Byron Botkin Jr., 73, of Adrian passed away Friday, March 11, 2011, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility, surrounded by his loving family.

Les was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Detroit, the youngest child of Leslie Byron and Ruth (Porter) Botkin Sr. He attended school in Milan until he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in France during the Korean War. On Oct. 23, 1976, Leslie married Betty Carlson Raymond.

Les worked for the state of Michigan Highway Department as a construction inspector for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. Upon his retirement, he worked part time at the Lenawee County Road Commission until 2001.

Les loved to golf and was involved in many leagues; he treasured the friendships that evolved on the course. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and used to bowl frequently, dance and play cards.

Above all, he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Les is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty; his children, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Botkin of East Lansing, Kristy (Charlie) Watson of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Joe) Berlin also of Grand Rapids, Eric (Lynn) Botkin of Frisco, Texas, Lori (Scott) Lara of Tecumseh, and Troy (Patricia) Raymond of Adrian; 13 grandchildren; and his sister, Rosemary Wolfe, of Adrian.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may visit the family at Wagley Funeral Home on Monday, March 14, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services for Les will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 3 p.m. with the Rev.

John Kottke officiating.

Contributions in Les' memory may be directed to Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
